Liz Padawer: Shadows

You're getting my post a little early this week - I'll be in Wichita until Thursday and won't have access to my computer before Wednesday's deadline arrives. Just a quick note now that I've started writing: I'm really enjoying being a part of ISO. I love looking at everyone's shots and getting feedback. Great work, everyone!

The bottom shot is a nice moment. How'd you get that? The other two are ok, I'm not digging them as much. They don't seem to tell a story or anything whereas the bottom frames is obviously about young sweethearts enjoying an afternoon together.

I wish I could say it's a candid shot (that would have been pretty gosh-darn sweet), but I have to admit it was premeditated.

I'm feeling the bottom one more than the other two. I like you looking at the pattern in the shadow on the first photo though.

*The top shot is a bit too literal for me. It is just a shadow from a light on the ceiling. Although it has nice leading lines, it doesn't really do anything for me.

*The second shot is nice. You get a feel for the people looking at the artwork. Next time, try to get a straight on shot from right in front of the artwork. This way the line where the wall meets the floor would be straight across the frame. I don't know if this is possible, since there are people looking at the art, but if it was possible, it would only improve the shot.

*The third shot is really nice, but it appears to be more of a silhouette than a shadow. You found a great moment, and it is well exposed, but just doesn't fit into the category. Nice find though.

It's funny you should mention the straight-on shot option on the second one. I shot it from the hip because I technically wasn't allowed to be shooting in that gallery at all. A man came up to me right after I snapped the shutter and said "Ma'am, you realize there are no pictures allowed in here, right?" Hahaha.
